Modern vertical conveyors contain a lot of innovative technology. These machines are used in many industrial settings to improve efficiency in mass production of many products you use. There are many configurations of vertical conveyor systems but we'll only talk about two here. Automatic Bucket Elevator Systems These contraptions are made to carry bulk granules, powders, and sometimes liquids up a vertical path sometimes multiple storeys high. Cambelt, a builder of industrial belt conveyors, designs these bucket elevator systems for many applications from mining to agricultural to final food preparation factories. Material is loaded onto a horizontal conveyor belt, which then turns vertical through a hold-down disc assembly — a set of static wheels securing the belt along its path across a concave directional change. Firmly mounted "buckets" on the belt then lift the material until it is turned horizontal again and unloaded. Special cleaning techniques must be used to clean bucket elevators. Cambelt conveyors use a rotary belt "thumper", which shakes debris from the buckets during the downward trip by intense vibration. Air knives are also sometimes used depending on the material being lifted. Spiral Vertical Conveyors Spiral conveyors are designed for lifting packaged goods while conserving horizontal space. They convey product along a circular path. The side-to-side direction shifts required by these structures make one piece belt infeasable. But the adjustable slats or rollers they use leave gaps, which of course don't work well for free bulk material bucket elevators are used for. Most spiral conveyors use overlapping slats with steel bearings to move between a circular and a straight path easily. When this segmented belt moves through straight parts of the conveyor at the top or bottom, slats align uniformely. But when they come to the circular section of the path, one side of the segmented belt expands to fit the spiral path. The ease of loading many packages on a spiral belt conveyor at once makes it a much more efficient vertical conveyor than most platform lifts for high volumes of product. ![]() | |||
