History of Conveyor Belts

The conveyor system was very easy in the early days. The conveyor belt systems had a flat wooden mattress and a belt that travelled over the solid wood bed. Previously, conveyor belts had been made of leather, canvas or even rubber. This kind of primitive conveyor belt system has been very popular with regard to conveying cumbersome items from one place to another. In the beginning of the 20th century, the applications of conveyor devices became larger. Conveyor straps were used in coal mines to carry tons of coal for more than 8kms. They were also protected using covers made of natural cotton and rubberized materials. A long conveyor belt is still in use and is about 60 miles long inside the phosphate mines of the Western Sahara. One of the switching points in the history of conveyor belts was the development of synthetic conveyor belts. It was introduced during the Second World War, mainly because of the shortage of organi c materials for example cotton, rubber and so on. Since then, synthetic conveyor belts have become popular in various areas.
