| The history of conveyor belt systems may be one of extreme practicality, in conjunction with a high workload. The traditional conveyor is actually rugged and hard-working, often used underground within mining or above ground within agricultural settings. With these types of problems, the belts needed to be strong and durable. They could be constructed from almost anything, based upon where in the United States they were being used and what they had to convey. Wood, leather and steel were the typical components of many of these early conveyor devices. With the turn of the century came a noticeable difference in the style of factories, in order that many of them laboured on a bit-assembly program. This system meant no one worker would finish a complete piece of merchandise and rather it must be passed along a line or even over the factory floor. This style of assembly meant that there was clearly a need for one thing to carry the parts from one worker to the next, as well as the device which usually fulfilled these demands best was the conveyor belt. The necessity for more secure belts came with development of rubber-based conveyors, which were used to transport delicate parts around the manufacturing plant.  | |||
