Going in One Direction | Conveyors Blog

If your company is interested in purchasing conveyors that will go in one direction and require very little electrical energy to run, then the ball conveyor is the conveyor for you! Although they may require more manpower to run than other conveyor models, these unidirectional, manually run systems are environmentally friendly and will greatly improve the speed at which your company is able to move products from one location to another.

Set up with bars on either side, to keep the products from falling off the edges, a ball conveyor is a system of metallic balls with little space in between, the perfect setup for the movement of boxes and flat-bottomed products. The balls are fit close enough together that no product will snag as the glide over them with easy momentum but far enough from each other to be able to rotate freely without one ball hindering another. These balls are usually made of a heavy duty and easy to clean material, such as steel or nylon, both of which are able to handle large amounts of weight without showing strain or stress. Since waterproof materials are always chosen for both the frame and balls, these systems are easily kept clean as well.

Ideal environments for ball conveyors include small workstations where heavy products are moved a short distance, usually from one station to another. In the manufacturing realm, this is very helpful, especially for smaller companies who do not want to invest in financially straining systems that don't require any manual labor to run. Larger ball conveyor systems are also often utilized in packaging and shipping facilities, setup at various angles to move packages along without the aid of a motor or electrical system. Although some may prefer more advanced conveyors, the low cost and limited maintenance requirements of the ball conveyor make it an excellent option.
