Free-Flowing Conveyor Advances | Product Design

Elementary school-level science classes have taught children about the different instances in time when man invented methods of moving objects before the wheel was formally used. Close your eyes and picture visual aids from your early education years, where Egyptians would be moving gigantic bricks used in building the huge pyramids.

How are they moving those enormous blocks along? With the aid of logs, laid consecutively, over which the bricks are placed. The brick is then pulled forward using ropes, with the logs rolling underneath. As the brick launches forward, the logs that get left behind it are carried and put in front of the brick, and this process is continued till the brick reaches its destinations.

They must have been at this back-breaking job for a while, but the Egyptians were surely on to something. Those laid-out logs must certainly have been the starting idea for the non-powered conveyor equipment which we see used every day.

Conveyors are essential tools in materials-handling industries. Wherever there is a great number of products or things to be loaded and transported, there are certain to be conveyor systems positioned to ensure that they're delivered from one area of a factory or warehouse to another one.

Large scale industries will demand models which may hold heavy or cumbersome items, like pieces of a car, electronics parts, or perhaps carcasses of livestock getting ready to be processed for food products. In these cases, overhead conveyors will effectively move these large objects to various parts of a factory when necessary.

For simpler functions, however, non-powered conveyors are ideal for the process. A roller conveyor uses gravity to propel an item along over its cylinders, and it's excellent for moving flat- and uneven-bottomed items alike, for instance boxes and cans.

An aluminum or steel skatewheel can be another good and lighter choice; its portability permits its easy use in many locations including delivery areas and pick-and-pack stops.

There is a gravity-powered form of the mechanized belt conveyor as well; it would translate to a roller conveyor belt that has a rubber sheet covering, made for moving cargo for inclines and declines. The rubber sheet minimizes incidents of slipping, even in cases of smooth-bottomed boxes and parcels.

Machines are helpful tools in large operations, but for simple loading and moving needs, simple systems could also perform best. Consider how the Egyptians transferred their bricks, and check out the things they could make! Anything can truly be accomplished when you have the proper tools for the job.
